CHM Series Windspeed and Direction Signal Conditioners

NOTE: THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
Please contact us if you require service or spares for existing units.

The CHM Series windspeed/direction signal conditioner/alarm set is based around a 24V DC powered Chameleon 'intelligent' DIN rail mounted signal conditioning module and provides conditioned 4-20mA, 0-20mA, or 0-10v (etc) analog outputs with the option of upto two volt-free alarm contacts.

A matching PSU-S82K DIN rail power unit can be provided pre-wired to the chameleon module when a system needs to be mains powered.

The CHM and PSU modules are NOT weatherproof and must be mounted indoors in a suitable enclosure or in an existing control/wiring cabinet. Modules are normally supplied mounted to a short section of DIN rail for this purpose.
This system uses our A100L2 anemometer and W200P windvane. Both the anemometer and windvane signals are linearised appropriately (to correct for rotor and loading non-linearity respectively) and wind speed and direction averages are calculated using a recursive filter/average giving an 'RC' style average equivalent to that used in all our previous systems.

The configuration of the software programmable chameleon module can be altered to accommodate most customer needs, eg different averaging times, windspeed ranges, output signal types/ranges, or to allow the use of upto two volt-free contacts for wind speed and/or wind direction alarms. Correct operation of the modules can be monitored using a relay contact which opens in the event of a fault causing system reset, or a power failure (only one alarm contact possible if this feature required). The alarm contacts should be used to drive a slave relay or contactor when switching mains rated or heavy current loads.

Input/output connections to the chameleon are via un-pluggable screw terminal blocks. The system provides '3-port' galvanic isolation, i.e. the sensors are isolated from the power supply input which is itself isolated from the analog output signals. Note that the analog outputs are not isolated from each other, however a standard DIN rail mounted isolator can be used to overcome this.

Specification Highlights:

  • Wind Speed Range:
  • 0..25 m/s as standard (other ranges to order)
  • Wind Direction Range:
  • 0..360°
  • Wind Speed Sensor:
  • A100L2 anemometer
  • Wind Direction Sensor:
  • W200P windvane
  • Output Signals:
  • 4-20mA, 0-20mA, 0-10V (or 0-5V**, 0-10mA**)
  • Output Resolution:
  • 0.09% FSD (10bits)
  • Averaging:
  • 30 sec ('rc' style), others to order.
  • Supply Voltage:
  • 24V DC +/-10%
  • Supply Current:
  • 350mA maximum (typically 150-200mA)
  • Temperature Range:
  • 0..+50°C operating (-40..+70°C storage)
  • Operating Humidity:
  • 0..90%RH (non-condensing). This unit is NOT weatherproof and MUST be installed indoors in a suitable enclosure/wiring cupboard.
  • Output Load:
  • Current Output: 500 Ohms maximum
    Voltage Output: 1K Ohms minimum
  • Output Relays:
  • Two rated at 3A@240VAC***. One is normally configured as a 'fault' alarm (opens on fault), and the other (or both) can optionally be configured as a fixed windspeed/direction alarm.
  • Isolation:
  • Full 3-port galvanic isolation to 500V DC (input/output/power supply). Note that outputs are NOT isolated from each other, however, a separate isolator can be used if necessary.

    Notes:
** Uses only part of output range, so resolution is reduced accordingly. For some applications, it may be better to use the standard/full output and use a different current shunt (or voltage divider) at the measuring end.
*** We advise the use of an additional slave relay/contactor when switching heavy loads or when switching anything other than small loads such as a warning lamp/siren.
